Firstly, a brief history of the pneumatic wheel which was first practically used in the late 1800`s on a young boys bike. Through the latter stages of the century varying inventors tried to patent the idea of the pneumatic wheel and even today it is debatable who actually held the first patent rights.

In the mid 20th century Michelin introduced the radial tyre after they brought the bankrupt arm of Citroen. Radial tyres use a development of either cords or metal strips running at right angles within the rubber, thus giving long lasting wheels and better fuel economy. Today there are over 450 tyre manufacturing companies worldwide producing over 1 billion tyres per year.

What can 360 castors and wheels offer all our customers? We stock pneumatic wheels from 200mm to 400mm with steel or plastic centres; 20mm, 25mm, and 25.4mm. These also can come with varying tread patterns such as rib profile, diamond pattern or block pattern, depending on your preference.

Over the past year, we have introduced a puncture proof wheel, or micro-cellular polyurethane, which is its technical term. These look and react just like any pneumatic wheel but because of its unique polyurethane foam cushion, it doesn’t puncture, giving a greater life span.

360 Castors & Wheels can also offer some of these wheels in swivel and fixed brackets, which are fabricated and bright zinc plated. We can offer sizes from 220mm up to 400mm from stock, and wheel lock can be requested for the 220mm and 260mm castors.
